SLAP: the cocktail of cultural diversity

The Irish keeps on with its cultural initiatives: in addition to the live concerts on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, your Trianon pub dedicates its niche on Sunday afternoon to the speech arts. In fact, from 16:00 to 19:00, the floor is for poets and other slam poets, supported by musical improvisers and artists.

"The SLAP is a time dedicated to poetry, fused with live music and Visual arts», Ingrid Kayitare explains, one of the initiators of this approach. In this island whose formation is the result of molten material it’s like inviting the masters of the forges to ignite the fires of the extinct volcanoes... And such as lava spurts, the thought will gush!

"We said that we are catalysts of cultural life when we launched our musical evenings. With SLAP, we are resolutely pursuing this path. It’s fine to talk about cultural diversity, but where does it get to express itself, precisely in its diverse form? The Irish aims to foster this type of initiatives and I believe that this matches our real mission," says Javed Vayid, General Manager of the Irish pub.

Ingrid Kayitare and her friends are, in fact, part of this growing community of expatriate students residing in Mauritius. Their diverse backgrounds promote links, generated and maintained by their relationship to art in its varied forms. For Ingrid, this time aims at universality and language should not be a problem: "Creativity is our currency. Sway to the spoken words and strung strings of the timeless souls. We welcome you to step outside the world of face value and dive into the streams of consciousness of artists from all over the globe," she says.
